It was good to read about less well known composers from behind the Iron Curtain. The concert itself and your review help correct these lapses and paint a varied and colorful picture of the musical scene in Easter Europe.While it is always a pleasure to listen to the great composers it is also very important to shed light on other talented composers of the times. Another very timely scheduled concert of a lesser known but very talented and pivotal composer from behind the Iron Curtain is the concert of Bulgarian composer Petko Staynov at Weill Hall on May 25. As you seem to have an adventurous spirit and a wonderful open mind come and see for yourself. The deeply moving music is late romantic with folk elements ( timely as we see the Emerson quartet playing Janacek and Dovorak); and to top it all the story behind the composer, blind since the age of eleven and his role in the shaping of an excellent musical culture is inspirational.
