What enrages me most about this is that it's the direct result of the relaxation of laws limiting how many media outlets a particular company could own. Newspapers, radio, and the citizenry were all better off with more small voices than the current tiny number of debt-burdened conglomerates that dominate major markets. The Republicans claim competition is good, then change the law to undermine competition in media and ideas.

Economists Richard Posner and Gary Becker examine the trend of declining newspapers on their blog and come to the conclusion that newspapers serve smaller and smaller portions of the population. Posner points to the blogosphere as a significant counterweight (except of course the bloggers for the most part are unpaid) that provides a rich source of opinion and information. So we should welcome Mr. Johnson to the blogosphere and celebrate the wider availability of his views as we take personal responsibility to dodge the corporate brainwashing as much as possible.
