The Goings On About Town section in The New Yorker remains suspended indefinitely in its conventional format, and album reviews linger. But with a marked uptick lately in the number of live online events planned and announced well in advance, the possibility of "events listings" has resumed. For the May 11 issue, though, I've returned to album reviews. One, the John Adams concerto, was requested by the editor, which is not to say I had any hesitation about taking that request; the other, the Grand Valley State University New Music Ensemble album, was my own choice, and I wish I'd had twice as many words, or more.
